How To Make Yourself Get Out Of Bed When Your Alarm Goes Off

Do you hit the snooze button *a lot* of times before actually getting out of bed in the morning? This is such a bad idea, because as science points out, this just means you’re starting your sleep cycle again and then interrupting it minutes later. It’s not good for you.
We get why you do it though–most of us are not totally ready to wake up when our alarm goes off in the morning. I am not a morning person at all–I need to be able to ease in to my day and wake up slowly. I’m not the kind of person that can jump up immediately as soon as my phone starts ringing–or I wasn’t, at least, until I discovered this trick for waking up and getting up as soon as my first alarm goes off.

What is it? The answer is to go to bed at the right time. No, seriously–hear me out. You thought I was going to say like, splash cold water on your face or something, right? No–the trick to waking up faster is to go to bed at the right time, according to your sleep cycle.
To do it, you’ll need to figure out your internal clock and coordinate your bedtime and wake-up to it. And it’s not as difficult as it sounds–here’s the calculation: The average sleep cycle is about 90 minutes long. The average person has 5 sleep cycles per night (this can vary), so 90 x 5 = 250 minutes or 7.5 hours of sleep.
